# Cosmic Field Notes

> A free learning site that explains the newest ideas in cosmology, quantum physics and CERN research in plain English, the way you'd explain them to a curious kid. Every idea has an interactive toy, many have short narrated films, and an optional "Show me the maths" mode adds the formulas with a symbol key and a worked example. A weekly digest explains the latest research results.

Site: https://estrelas.co.uk/ (English, UK). Content is free to read, quote and cite with a link back.

## Main page sections

The home page is one page with tabbed sections. Each can be linked directly:

- [The cosmos, one idea at a time](https://estrelas.co.uk/#cosmos): looking back in time, the expanding universe, redshift, the Hubble tension, dark energy, Omega (Ω), gravity and time, spinning galaxies, early "grown up" galaxies.
- [Maths ABC](https://estrelas.co.uk/#abc): squares, cubes, powers, scientific notation, square roots, Omega and Lambda, the Greek letters in physics formulas, and a glossary.
- [Quantum and CERN, made friendly](https://estrelas.co.uk/#quantum): atoms, charge and quarks, building particles from quarks, what "sigma" means, superposition, entanglement, the uncertainty principle, the Higgs field and mass.
- [Quantum reality](https://estrelas.co.uk/#qreal): the double slit experiment, Schrödinger's cat, Bell's theorem, why observation does not need a person, and why quantum computers do not "try every answer at once".
- [Big questions: consciousness and the cosmos](https://estrelas.co.uk/#big): the hard problem, Orch OR, whether the mind collapses the wave function, panpsychism, and what physics says for certain.
- [Latest research, explained](https://estrelas.co.uk/#latest): weekly digests of new results in cosmology, quantum physics and particle physics.
- [Watch and read](https://estrelas.co.uk/#watch): the site's films, recommended videos, accounts to follow and books.
- [Viral videos (Fact Checked)](https://estrelas.co.uk/#check): seven popular space claims rated true, partly true or false, with the reasons.

## Tools

- [Formula Decoder](https://estrelas.co.uk/decoder.html): paste a formula or a paragraph from a scientific paper and get it back in plain English, colour coded by meaning.
